MIRAGE
MIRAGE (2023) - contrast of truth and perception in the modern world
The artwork MIRAGE is made of a curved, transparent plexiglass pane enclosed in a
wooden frame.
The shape of the Plexiglas creates distortions of light that invite the viewers to interact
between the space and the artwork.
At the same time, the transparency of the material allows one to discover the artwork
from both sides and gain different impressions.
Philosophically, the work poses the question of the relationship between
perception and truth.
Perception is a subjective experience that is influenced by individual factors such as
experience, prejudices and cultural aspects.
Truth, on the other hand, is often considered objective and independent of percep-
tion.
But how can we be sure that what we see is true? The distorting effects of light
through the Plexiglas panel make it clear that our perception can always be influ-
enced and thus does not always correspond to the truth.
The transparency of the material underlines that the search for “truth” requires view-
ing from different angles. Depending on where one is located, different parts of the
overall picture can be grasped. The artwork invites the viewer to question his or her
own point of view, to be open to different perspectives and to become aware that
there is no absolute truth.
